Everything old is new again in this work from home world. People have and continue to spend a considerable amount of time at home and are recreating the cozy feels of times past. This year’s designer trends are moving towards patterns and colors inspired by nature – and who can blame them after being indoors all of 2020!
One particular note in this movement is the resurgence of vintage floral patterns – sometime referred to as “Liberty Prints.”
What is a Liberty Print?
In the 1920’s London’s famed department store Liberty of London began manufacturing its own line of printed fabrics which featured miniature florals and paisley prints. These floral art print fabrics produced in England and sold along side the imported silks became a hit and helped to build the Liberty Fabric brand. From the 1950’s through to today the in-house design team creates hundreds of new designs each year for fashion and home use.
Using Vintage Floral Patterns in Home Interiors
Bringing vintage floral patterned fabrics into your home interior can add a warm, cozy feel to a room while giving it a sense of connection. The patterns provide color and texture and are best used offset against solid color surfaces or objects in the room. With the range of colors in these vibrant florals it’s easy to find a hue which works with other throw pillows, side chairs, walls or bathroom accessories.
Pattern can be applied to any surface in ANY room – pick a pattern and gauge how bold you want to be! In your bathroom you might choose to commit to a VERY bold pattern on the walls like this photo or you can ease into your new design with a simpler, less costly and easier to change option like a printed shower curtain.
